A Story within a Story. "Chitat' Onlayn." Midasian gold, Thalesian steam.
A Story within a Story.
This is a story about a story within a story. The story was one I used a translator to read as it was found on a Russian web site. It seemed for all the world to be a rip-off of a classic science fiction tale from the golden age of science fiction.
The main character was derived from a supporting character of the original, same story, different view point, alternative perspective.
His name was via translator "T. I. M. MacGroomer." In the Russian it had been alternatively expanded to something like Timofeyev Ivanovich Medvyeyev MacGroomer but in Russian alphabet, for illustration on official documents..
The setting was in a State Legislature of an unspecified American midwest location. Two political parties dominated and one was designated for targeting by a crime syndicate, complications arose when it turned out the writer writing the story was a character in the story within the story. And was using spells derived from a book of magic. Or merely re-writing reality, depending on how one looked at it.
With a thinly veiled surname change, Zhyenikhovich.
Authored but by "John Iykhovich."
"Chitat' Onlayn" is a search that will turn up this and other stories like this for further research.
The Course, the Curriculum:
Anyway, during the course of the story, the salamanders (Salaam anthropes, "peace" partisans) and the by the genome gnomes fuse in Midasian gold, or smelted metals, copper is easy enough.
While the undines and the sylphs fuse into steam, clouds, heavenly mountain ranges of Thalesian steam.
What were four archetypes, elementals, turn out to have been only two.
The Realm of Hell is a Platonic mirror of Memes.
While the solid "Mother Earth" alma mater, is a school of Nebelstreifs, and nipple strife.
From a cynical eight nipples, endlically to a collapse of canine four, not doggèd but merely minimally mammal, finally two, with two breasts.
Milky white clouds.
Rare earth metals. Earth the stable genius bouncing in the woods babe.
... almost a Faun in Fir Forests.
"Heaven" has been brought "down to earth, " and Hell is ... "other people?
Or people who have been "othered"?
